Missions as Over 100 Employees Exit
In the face of high attrition rates, DoS has taken measures to deal with the problem of
attrition at the ISRO. This has come against the backdrop of over 100 scientists, engineers,
and technicians leaving ISRO in recent months, according to reports. The phenomenon has
created worries about the stability of the manpower of the organization in the midst of a bold
space programme by India including sending humans into space, moon missions, and
satellite programs.
It was noted that the majority of the attrition is made up of young scientists and engineers
who have joined other sectors including the private space sector, tech firms, and foreign
organizations. As per the experts in the industry, some of the factors responsible for this
move are competitive salaries, rapid promotion chances, and more opportunities in the
thriving private sector space industry of India.
As a measure of tackling the issue, DoS is said to be considering policy initiatives towards
employee retention. Some of the proposals are making recruitment easier, career
advancement, improved workplace flexibility and better compensation packages among
others.
The matter arises during an important period for the agency since many missions are to take
place in the following years, including the Gaganyaan human space flight program,
Chandrayaan-4 moon mission, NISAR earth observation satellite developed with NASA, and
more development of India’s satellite launch capacity. The preservation of the highly
professional team is deemed necessary for meeting these goals.
As was mentioned above, it is obvious that scientists often change organizations due to the
dynamic nature of the high technology industry; however, it is extremely important to retain
scientists in order to have a smooth scientific research process and mission
accomplishment. In addition, it should be noted that owing to reforms of recent times, India
has started developing its private space sector, offering new career opportunities for
scientists.
Thus, as the aspirations of India in the sphere of space become increasingly bigger, the
measures taken by the Department of Space in terms of talent retention will become
extremely important.
